Kratom Strains: What are the differences?

At Soulful Herbals we curate the highest potency kratom, so we will certainly always carry the Maeng Da strains of kratom. Why? Maeng Da kratom is simply named for its quality of strength and its potency of effects. Maeng Da is a term for the best quality that has attached itself to kratom over the years. Kratom is locally designated for only its color,— containing red, white or green veins on its leaves. It makes sense as people living in a locale in Borneo would just call it kratom and not Borneo Kratom if they have never been off island to try kratom elsewhere. Maeng Da kratom is simply a term reserved for the best quality or most potent of those kratom batches.

Kratom Strains Curated and Identified By Soulful Herbals

Kratom Strains
Kratom Strains include White, Green and Red. Gold is often an alternate strain of white.

How do they name the kratom strains?

Kratom strains are named for the geographical region from which they originate. For example, Red Bali Kratom is named because it was originally grown in Bali, but the truth is the names of the strains are all just superficial because Bali kratom is not grown in Bali as the name suggests but in Borneo, where it is grown alongside the Borneo strain. Kratom strains containing the designation Malay are actually grown in Malaysia like one of our most popular curated Soulful Herbals strains, Super Green Malay.

In some cases, the name of the Kratom strain is based on the place of origin of the tree. Different strains of Kratom  grown in different soil, exposed to different conditions and picked and different times— will have distinct alkaloid make-ups. This also means they will have distinct properties and affect the user in different ways.

Kratom Strains Can Be Mixed for Desired or Balanced Effects

The varying effects of the strains is the reason why kratom strains are often mixd together. Indigenous Thai populations consume their Kratom by mixing the strains to create the optimal balance of desired effects.

Here is a quick guide to Kratom strains, their uses and some of the characteristics of each strain.

Maeng Da Kratom Strains

Maeng Da is the most famous type of kratom because it simply is a naming of the best kratom strain. Maeng Da kratom could be grown in Borneo or Malaysia, but if it is considered to be of the highest grade and potency, it is given a Maeng Da designation. It is similar to the cannabis world where they call something “Dank” or “Kind.” Maeng Da originated as a street term and kratom’s version of the best weed you can find anywhere.

Bali Kratom

Unlike its namesake, this kratom strain is grown in Borneo and not on the Indonesian island of Bali. The name Bali Kratom originated because kratom is often shipped out internationally from ports in Bali. Bali and Borneo Kratom are very similar. Both Bali Kratom and Borneo Kratom strains are considered to be very mild strains and a good option for kratom novices and their first foray into the world of kratom.

The main kratom veins are red, green and white.

Malaysian or Malay Kratom

Malaysian, Malay Kratom or Super Malay is another great mid range Kratom strain that has its uses for the mild effects and is preferred by people to be used during the day as opposed to night. The Malay Kratom strain is revered for its long lasting effects over its powerful and immediate effects of the Maeng Da strains.

Thai Kratom

Thai Kratom is a strain of kratom that is often described as a less potent version of the Bali strain, which is why it is often the least expensive.

Kratom Extract

Kratom extract is simply refined Mitragyna speciosa (kratom) for its active ingredient Mitragynine 7-hydroxymitragynine. This is what makes kratom work no matter what the strain. It is just in what concentration with which added alkaloids from he indigenous soil that can round out the effects.
